Julia Burke

Founder/Producer

Julia Burke is the founder and producer of Wilmington’s Act 10. She recently graduated from Emmanuel College this spring, where she studied Theatre Arts as well as Communications and Media Studies. Though her passions stem from directing and producing, some of her stage credits at Emmanuel include The Chldren’s Hour (Karen Wright), Night of January 16th (Karen Andre, nominated for the Irene Ryan Scholarship by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival), and A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder as Hilda in the northeastern collegiate premiere of the recent Broadway production. Julia also works for the Children’s Theater Workshop of Wilmington in the summers, where she has the chance to teach, choreograph, paint, build, and even make the occasional cameo in their three summer shows under the graceful direction of Joanie Walsh.

At age 15, Julia was fortunate enough to be mentored by Katia DeStefano and Jason Luciana while assistant directing a play at Wilmington Middle School, which led to the concept of Act 10. “The idea behind Act 10 came from my desire to continue directing, but to incorporate everyone’s individual talents, while also putting our profits towards others in need. We’re all used to our profits going back to the programs we perform with, which is a beautiful thing, but my vision was to have this summer group whose main priority is giving back, and then starting basically from scratch the next summer.” Julia has directed the four musical cabarets that Act 10 has put up, as well as produced Act 10’s night of comedy shorts in 2019, and is back to solely producing this year with “Alphabet City Cycle”. Her other directing credits include Fairytale Courtroom (Assistant Director, WMS), Rumors (Student Director, WHS), Red Herring (Assistant Director, On The Fence Players), and The Children’s Hour (Director, On The Fence Players).
“Act 10’s performers are not only dripping with talent, but they are driven, dedicated and passionate young minds who constantly remind me why I love to direct and why I love sharing with them everything I know about the arts. To the actors, you all make up the many pieces of the huge puzzle that is this organization, and I can’t thank you enough for your constant faith, hope and love. To my production staff, you are the backbone of all the work I do at Act 10.”
